Caroline County

Established in 1738, Caroline County is made up of 537 square miles and has a current population of approximately 32,000 people. There are two very quaint, incorporated towns in Caroline County, Port Royal which borders the Rappahannock River, and Bowling Green, the county seat. Caroline County is home to Meadow Event Park which hosts the Virginia State Fair every year, among other events. Caroline County is considered the birthplace of thoroughbred horse racing in North America. The renowned horse, Secretariat, winner of the Triple Crown, was born here. There are two gated lakeside communities, Lake Caroline and Lake Land’Or that are rich in amenities. Lake Caroline is approximately 277 acres and surrounded by 1400 acres. Lake Land’Or has 16 lakes or ponds with the largest being 87 acres.
